* Say What? *

One of the announcers on the Mizzou/Memphis game just said that he’s “not sure that there’s a big man in the Big XII more talented offensively than Leo Lyons.”  Well, sure…if you don’t count the #14 scorer in the country, who averaged 22.5 PPG during the regular season and is averaging 30 PPG in the tournament.

* Big XII Teams 6-0 In First Round *

Impossible to see how a 7th Big XII team could have been qualified…

* KU / NDSU *

What a horrible atmosphere.  The place is maybe half full.  The crowd noise is muffled on the TV.  The NCAA really needs to reconsider using domes for anything other than the Final Four, and when it does use domes it needs to abandon the “full dome” setup.

* Nova / American *

Credit the NCAA with an assist for Nova in this one.  Allowing Nova as the 3 seed to play on what is literally a home court for the Wildcats several times each year certainly played a factor in the Wildcats pulling this one out at the end.  So much for the “neutral court” concept of the NCAA tournament.

Not to mention the injustice to fellow 3 seeds Kansas and Mizzou, who the NCAA saw fit to ship out to Minneapolis and Boise instead of Kansas City.

* Memphis / C.S. Northridge *

Thanks for ignoring this game while it was tight down the stretch, CBS.  Really glad we got to see the end of the aTm 15-point game instead.

* Andruw Jones Released by Dodgers *

Look for the Royals to show interest in signing Jones on the Dodgers’ dime. They tried to sign him as a free agent last year.

* BCS Championship *

If OU loses this game, it’s not on Brent Venables’ defense, which was perceived as the “weak” link.

* Carry On! *

On the Cotton Bowl broadcast just now, FOX interviewed Fountain Shots fave Pat Green and used his song “Carry On” for bump music coming back from commercial. Pat will be singing at The Granada in Lawrence on January 24th.

* Rumor: Mangino out at KU after bowl? *

Grade: C-. Coach getting ready for back-to-back bowls for the first time in school history on the hot seat? The only reason this rumor gets a barely passing grade is because we’ve heard it now from at least 3 separate sources. Although the alleged impetus for the firing in each version is different, they all involve off-field issues. If it happens, look for “health issues” to be cited, whether or not that’s the true reason.

* 3 Shots From 12/21 Chiefs’ Game *

1) Herm Edwards’ odds of keeping his job: 40%.
2) Chan Gailey is a heckuva o-coordinator.
3) Thigpen has at least earned the right to compete for the starting spot next year.
